Particle filter
Particle filters protect against fine dusts, and
also against pollens, road dust, abraded
particles, soot, bacteria, industrial dusts and
other respirable ultra-fine particles. Exhaust
fumes from diesel vehicles contain fine dusts
and soot particles, smaller than 2.5 micrometers.
This size of particle will not always be
arrested by the mucus membranes in the nasal
and pharyngeal cavities or by the nasal
hairs. These particles are particularly healthhazardous,
because they are able to trigger
inflammations in the lung, and also transport
toxic substances. Most of them are deposited
in the lower respiratory tracts and the lungs.
They are seen as a cause of respiratory tract >
diseases, cardio-vascular complaints and
asthma. Carcinogenic effects are also attributed
to them.
If pollens get inside the car unfiltered, allergysufferers
are particularly at risk. Streaming
eyes, dripping noses, shortness of breath or
sneezing attacks reduce concentration levels
and increase the accident risk. Sneezing
when you’re driving at 60 miles an hour means
you’re driving blind for 30 meters!
